Foreign Visas: When Do You Need One?

Foreign Visas: When Do You Need One?

When traveling internationally, it is important that you understand the visa requirements of a foreign country. At Exclusive Air, we have extensive global experience and knowledge in planning an international aircraft charter. We strive to ensure your experience is as seamless as possible and that means being prepared and aware of any required documents.

What Is A Visa?

A visa is conditional authorization for a foreigner to enter into a country, remain within, or to leave a country. While some visas may be obtained upon arrival in a foreign country, other visas may require a sponsor or invitation letter from the inviting country. If this is the case, you must apply in person at a consulate office or by mail. Popular countries that require visas for U.S. passengers are China, Brazil, Russia, India, Vietnam, Kenya, and Tanzania. Visa requirements apply to all incoming passengers on commercial flights and private aircraft charters.

Do You Always Need A Visa?

Some countries have agreements to allow each other’s citizens to travel between them without visas. For example, the Schengen Area includes 26 countries that have officially abolished passport and border control at their borders, including four that are not part of the European Union. The four countries that are not part of the EU but have signed agreements with the Schengen area are Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. The Schengen Area countries include Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Areas that are not part of the Schengen Area but still have open borders with the area are Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City.

What Else Do You Need?

A passport is mandatory for all passengers traveling internationally, even if a visa is not. Most countries also require that the passport be valid for 6 months beyond your date of entry. Additionally, proof of a return flight and proof of sufficient funds may be necessary.
